Northampton Town Women joint managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield are encouraging their side to keep putting in performances after they secured an important win on Sunday.

The Cobblers travelled to promotion rivals Lincoln United in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division and came away with a 0-1 success.

Captain Leah Cudone scored a stunning winner which was her 6th goal in four games and 16th of the season in all competitions.

Speaking after the match, Oldfield said: “Lincoln are a good team and they made it difficult for us, but the girls gave it everything and were outstanding.

“We did what we needed to do to get a result and we totally deserved it.”

Barry added: “These games are often decided by a bit of brilliance, and to get the win like that was great.

“Leah always steps up when we need her, and she did today.”

The Cobblers’ victory ended their opponents’ five game winning league run and means they remain three points clear in 1st place after Chesterfield’s success against Mansfield Town.

They travel to the Spireites (2nd), play the reverse fixture against the Whites (4th), welcome Loughborough Students (8th) to Sixfields Stadium and take on the Stags (3rd) home and away in their next five league games.

Barry said: “We’ve got some important games coming up.

“We know that today’s result won’t mean anything if we don’t continue putting in performances.”

The Cobblers host Nottingham Forest Development in the League Cup Quarter-Finals next week.

Their opponents are battling for 3rd place in the division below as it stands and Oldfield said: “We’ll go into the game the same as always, looking to win.

“We’ve had difficult periods over the last couple of years, but throughout that time we’ve continued our momentum.

“We’ll look to continue the momentum next week.”
